HOW DOES AIRBRUSH SPRAY TANNING WORK?

DHA (dihydroxyacetone) is a sugar based derivative that has been approved by the FDA for over 30 years. It reacts with the outer layers of your skin to create a natural looking tan in 8-12 hours. The immediate color you see is a cosmetic bronzer that mimics the color you will see in the coming hours. Most of it will rinse off in the shower so do not be alarmed! Your tan is still in tact and will continue to develop over the next 24 hours.

I'M TANNING FOR A SPECIAL EVENT. WHEN SHOULD I SCHEDULE MY APPOINTMENT?

It is best to schedule your airbrush tan a day or two before a special event or occasion. Many people prefer to schedule their appointment in the evening before and wait until the morning to rinse off. This gives the spray tan time to develop with little risk of accidental smudging or transfer of product while you are sleeping. Our Express Tan is also a popular option as it allows you to rinse off the bronzer in a shorter period of time. Please keep your entire pre-event beauty plan in mind when making your appointment. Facials, massages, and exfoliating manicures or pedicures should be done at least a few days prior to tanning.

SPRAY TANNING BEFORE & AFTER TIPS

HOW DO I PREP FOR MY APPOINTMENT?

My job is to provide you with a flawless spray tan! Your job is to prepare your skin for your appointment in order to have the best spray tan experience... Here's how you can do that!

  • Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate! In the days leading up to your appointment (especially the day prior) it is important to remove as much dry/dead skin as possible. This can be done by using your loofa, an exfoliating glove, or a scrub.

  • Shave/wax 24 hours prior to your appointment. Do not shave day of your appointment!

  • Have clean, dry skin (no makeup, deodorant, perfume, or lotion) at time of appointment. Best to just shower the day before and leave your skin bare. If a small amount of lotion is needed, make sure it is free of any harsh chemicals and fragrances. Do not apply anything in the 8 hours leading up to your appointment.

  • During your appointment, please dress down to your comfort level. Disposable bras and underwear are available upon request.

  • Drink plenty of water the day of your appointment to keep skin hydrated from within.

  • Facials, mani/pedis, and other spa services should be done prior to your spray tan. I will ensure that your nails are protected and we will only spray your face if you want to.

  • Clear a 6x6 area preferably on a hard surface and in a space with good lighting and a counter and/or sink near by. Kitchens and bathrooms tend to work well. Garages and outdoor spaces can be used as well (weather permitting). An outlet will need to be easily accessible.

WHAT SHOULD I DO AFTER MY APPOINTMENT?

  • Wear dark, loose-fitting clothing & flip flops

  • Avoid all moisture for at least 4-5 hours (shower, sweat, humidity). Some sunless solutions allow you to rinse after 2 hours and others after 8 hours.

  • Your first shower should be a quick, warm rinse. Use a gentle, clean formula, oil-free body wash, only in the areas needed. You will notice all of your bronzer rinsing off and your skin may appear lighter. This is normal! Your tan will continue to develop over the next 24-48 hours.

  • Pat dry with towel (a microfiber towel is best) instead of rubbing.

  • Try not to shave for at least 24-48 hours and use a new razor with conditioner instead of shave cream. Shave lightly to avoid stripping the tan.

  • Moisturize 1-2x daily with a clean formula lotion. Avoid harsh chemicals such as BHA, salicylic acid & anti-aging products.

  • Use an oil-free SPF lotion sunscreen to protect your skin and your tan. Apply 15 minutes prior to any water activities to create a barrier between the water and your tan. Avoid soaking for long periods of time.

  • In order to best preserve your tan over the next 7-10 days, do not exfoliate your skin, use mineral oil, or soak in hot water for too long.

  • To extend the life of your tan, we recommend using a tan extending lotion or self-tanner at home in area that are appearing lighter (common on the hands an face) or once the tan starts to fade.

  • Once the tan starts to fade, it is important to then begin exfoliating in  order to remove the old tan residue.
